statement of intent
Erica Rigby statement of intent:
Institution:
For my billboard advertisement, I will ensure that it
follows all rules and regulations set out by the ASA. For example, it will not
include content that would offend, harm, or mislead a child (anyone under 16
according to the ASA) such as, content including or condoning violence or
antisocial behaviour, or content that would cause fear or stress to a child.
This is especially important, as my billboards will be showcased in towns, and
cities, which are particularly busy environments, allowing my billboards to be
seen by those who aren’t the target audience – children. As well as this, the
broadcast time of my documentary itself, will be after the watershed, given
that it is based on true crime, specifically a chain of killings, and would
therefore not be fit for children to watch.
Representation:
For my documentary to be successful with as big of an
audience as possible – still within the target audience – it is important to
portray individuals in a positive way, whilst still raising awareness of
societal problems, common within the world. Within my documentary, I intent to
target two main social groups of men and woman. The documentary is centred
around a chain of killings, committed by a woman as an act of revenge for
things these men had done to other women, including sensitive topics such as
sexual assault as one example. Therefore, even though this woman is a criminal,
the females within my target audience will likely be able to see reasoning
behind her behaviours, allowing the female representation within my documentary
to be somewhat positive, if not neutral. However, the detectives I will feature
in my documentary, Are both a mix of males and females, a female being the
individual to eventually, ‘crack the case,’ allowing both male representation,
and more female representation.
How my posters will attract the target audience:
The target audience for my brief, is 16-25 year olds, who
are interested in groundbreaking documentaries; this allows me to infer that
they could be interested in political subjects, and topics of debate. This is
why I have chosen to include a female killer with reasoning within my
documentary, as it allows for a debatable subject as to whether these murders
can be justified or not. To further this, I intend to include quotes or phrases
on my billboards, to represent this problematic subject, one being, ‘it takes
years to build trust but only seconds to break it,’ to represent the main
killing – the criminals long-term relationship. This will attract my target
audience. As well as this, true crime has become that of a common trend within younger generations,
meaning that by using iconography such as case files within one of my billboards,
I can attract this audience.
